So you know that challenge that stop_drop_porn did a while back? *notices blank looks all around* Let me rephrase. Once upon a time, there was a community called stop_drop_porn, that had a challenge a while back. The basic idea was that you had a pool of people willing to write fic. The administrator of the challenge would "tag" one of those people, and that person would write fic. The writer would then tag someone else in the pool, who would write another fic and tag someone else, and so on. The tricky part was, of course, that you had to write and post your fic in 24 hours, or forfeit and wait for the next time around. (And there may have also been prompts along with the tagging, to make things even more difficult.) In any case. I kind of wish I could do something like that, only for a fandom I'm actually in. The obvious solution, of course, is to simply force myself to write and post every single day. *snorts* Like that's going to happen. I don't even know why I want to do this, because I already have an insane amount of work to do right now. Oh wait. I'm procrastinating. That explains everything. - Mood:amused

This is ... experimental. In more ways than one. But some frightening issues have come up that make it difficult for me to work on ... well, anything, really, but this in particular. So I figured I'd post it rather than let it languish on my hard drive. Even if there's probably only one person who'll even think about reading it. Title: An Uncertain Future Author: duskwingsRating: PG-13 Spoilers: The existence of the Wraith. The existence of Ronon. The existence of Caldwell. The existence of Lorne. That's about it, really. Beta: The wonderful anr. Summary: Atlantis is in trouble, and some interesting visitors have arrived to help out ... Notes: Written for mspooh in the swficathon. The request was: "quantum mirror or time travel, a bit of plot, no babies, no other pairings for either John or Elizabeth." Two months late, because I suck at fandom. A thousand apologies. I have been so insanely busy lately. As in, staying up until 5 am and waking up at 10 am EVERY DAMN DAY. You could pack an elephant into the bags under my eyes. *yawns* The only reason I am posting is because I finished my swficathon fic, and I need an 11th hour beta, and am hoping that someone on my flist is: (a) still paying attention to what I say, and (b) willing to beta and/or direct me to someone who would be willing to beta. It's approximately 5000 words, my usual brand of drama/angst/fluff (yes, that is a genre), and due Friday. *begs* - Mood:exhausted

Evidently fandom decided to go kablooie while I was gone. Why am I never here for the interesting stuff? (On second thought, maybe that's a good thing.)
I really wish I had a laptop, so that I could stay connected to the online community over break without using someone else's computer. (Which, for some reason, always makes me feel vaguely dirty. I imagine it's rather like wearing someone else's underwear, or some such.)
No real progress on the ficathon fic -- I've rewritten a couple sections, juggled some parts around, but I still haven't completed the final three scenes. I feel like such a slacker, because I had all that time over break and basically did nothing.
*sighs* Why does picking classes have to be so hard? - Mood:tired

So apparently, Eragon is being made into a movie and a video game. Christopher Paolini, or whatever his name is, must be one rich kid by now. In more personal news, I had to drop NaNo a couple weeks ago -- I got over halfway through my wordcount, but in the middle of Thanksgiving break I realized that I didn't have enough time to do my school work, much less catch up on my gigantic wordcount deficit. *sighs* Not that I really have much time now. But at least I'm actually getting a reasonable amount of sleep, which is more than I can say about a lot of November. With any luck, I'll be done with my work in time to finish my swficathon fic. - Mood:complacent

Well, I used to have a nice word-count buffer for NaNo. I actually hit the midpoint on Day 10. But then I had a lot of work to do, and didn't work on it for days, and now I've fallen behind. *grumbles* I did, however, write 2000 words worth of Jake/Heather (from Jericho) fluff. Very adorable, drunk!Heather fluff. Which is kind of begging not one, but two sequels. *sighs* Why couldn't those 2000 words have come on my NaNovel? Or my swficathon fic? Good news is, Thanksgiving's coming up. So with any luck, I'll have some time to get back on my feet. - Mood:scared

The Good News: I have my ficathon assignment.
The Bad News: I have my ficathon assignment.
Where have all the plot bunnies gone? Why are they running away from me at top speed? Am I ever going to be able to write my ficathon fic? (To find out, tune into next week's exciting episode of The Writer Files! :P) - Mood:amused

Hm. I just wrote up a post about how on both Stargates, the villains could probably use gamma ray radiation to kill someone (read: our enterprising heroes) through the iris and/or shield. Which, of course, prompts the question of, "Why the hell haven't they done it already?" To which I have no answer. ( Cut for general spoilers from seasons two and three of Atlantis ... )At that point, I remembered that this is a TV show, and therefore they can do whatever they want with their science. Including screw it up royally. So I'm just going to suspend disbelief and pretend that I never had the idea about gamma ray apocafic in the first place. - Mood:thoughtful

Just wrote 700 words of post-"The Real World" fluff. With hand-holding! Unfortunately, my muse seems to have fallen utterly in love with the words "hand" and "fingers" so I need to do some editing before it's posted. Or maybe round up a beta.
Oh, fuck. I seem to have stayed up until 5 AM again. *headdesk* - Mood:tired

I've been doing a little research on submarines and submersibles for a fic that I'm considering writing, and EEE! It's so cool. All of it. Did you know that the first submarine was actually created in 1775, and the Americans tried (and failed) to use it against the British in the Revolutionary War? Or that the bathyscaphe Trieste has gone almost 11 kilometers under the surface? Or that the Alvin was once lost under 600 meters of water for several months, and when it was finally brought up to the surface, the bologna sandwich inside of it was still intact? *bounces*
In an interesting coincidence, the Alvin is carried on a ship called RV Atlantis. Coincidence because the fic I'm considering is an Atlantis AU. It's a pity that I don't have the attention span to write it, or the technical knowledge to make it work. Because OMGSOCOOL! - Mood:excited

Proof* That Lorne's First Name is Major: Elizabeth calls everyone by their first name. Elizabeth calls Lorne, "Major." Therefore, Major is Lorne's first name.
* Not really. :P
I was thinking that Lorne could be sort of like Inspector Morse, with some really horrible name like "Endeavor." I mean, then he could be like Morse and always ask to be called by his last name or his rank.
I'm thinking along the lines of "Adventure," or possibly "Danger." I mean, if you've gotta have a bad name, you may as well go for the really bad ones. :P - Mood:silly

Around 4800 words on one fic, start to end. Granted, it sucks, and has a lot of completely useless filler where I went, "Hm. Well, I don't want to delete this section that I've started, but I don't know how to end this, so I'm just going to write something random and hope that it turns out okay." Plus it's kind of the story that never ends -- there's this lovely climax and then what looks like it could be an ending, and then it goes on for another 2000 words. And the whole thing is kind of pointless, anyway.
Yeah. So ... your basic drawer!fic. I suppose that if I did a lot of snipping and editing and such I could turn it into something that I wouldn't mind sharing with other people. But I'm definitely not going to do that tonight, if I ever do it.
Still. My favorite passage:
She frowns, glancing up at the high window, but the light is still flowing in -- it can't be more than five in the afternoon, at the very most. So it's probably not John, unless he's managed to get himself into trouble again.
On second thought, it probably is John. - Mood:sleepy

HEE! I just wrote 820 words in the last hour or two. Of course, it's complete and total drawer!fic, but it makes me SO SO SO HAPPY! I'm writing! And more than just a sentence or two!
Of course, I probably just jinxed it. But still! Writing!
Hee. I totally need to cut down on my sugar intake. - Mood:ecstatic

Brazil and Spain share FIFA's Fair Play Award, thus proving that nice guys finish last lose to France. I'm currently being tempted by both fish_like_bikes and je_ficathon, even though I know that both of them would be a disaster for me. I've discovered, thanks to 10hugs, that I'm horrible at writing on demand. And one of them overlaps with the beginning of the school year, which makes it even more difficult. *sighs* fish_like_bikes isn't a fic exchange, though, so that's a plus. I'm likely to just debate so long that the deadline passes. Because that's my modus operandi. I think I have post-World Cup depression. What am I going to do with myself for the rest of the summer, with no matches to watch and no teams to root for? - Mood:blah

Today is the first day of my summer job. *freaks out a little* In other news, Beckenbauer calls for players to stop play-acting and feigning injury. *snorts* With Italy vs. France in the finals and Portugal vs. Germany in the third place game?
